History

The idea of a monumental statue honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, was conceived by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2010 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Patel played a pivotal role in the integration of over 560 princely states into the Union of India after independence, earning him the title 'Iron Man of India' and a revered place in the nation's history. The project was officially announced in 2013, aiming to inspire future generations with his ideals of unity and good governance. Construction began in October 2014, involving thousands of workers and a meticulous engineering process to bring this ambitious vision to life. The statue was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar and inaugurated on October 31, 2018, coinciding with Patel's 143rd birth anniversary, a testament to his enduring legacy.
