History
The origins of Qila Mubarak are shrouded in antiquity, with some historians attributing its construction to the Kushan emperor Kanishka in the 1st century AD. However, the fort gained significant prominence during the medieval period. It became a crucial strategic point due to its location, controlling trade routes and acting as a defense against invaders from the northwest. Throughout its long history, the fort witnessed the rise and fall of numerous empires, including the Ghaznavids, Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, and Sikh Confederacy. One of its most famous historical events is the imprisonment of Razia Sultan, the only female monarch of the Delhi Sultanate, within its walls in 1239 AD. Later, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, also visited the fort, further cementing its historical and religious importance. The fort has undergone several renovations and additions by different rulers over the centuries, each leaving their architectural mark on its enduring structure.
