Leisure Valley in Chandigarh is not a traditional valley but rather an expansive and thematic linear park stretching over 8 kilometers, often referred to as the 'lungs of Chandigarh.' It's a verdant ribbon of green that weaves through various sectors of the city, connecting several beautiful gardens and floral attractions. Designed by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier, it embodies his vision of a 'Garden City,' offering residents and visitors a serene escape from urban life. The valley is meticulously planned with pathways for walking, jogging, and cycling, interspersed with picnic spots, sculptures, and water features. History

Leisure Valley is an integral part of Le Corbusier's master plan for Chandigarh, conceived in the mid-20th century. During the city's design phase, Corbusier envisioned a system of green spaces that would transverse the urban area, providing a continuous recreational and ecological corridor. His concept was to create a 'valley of leisure,' a natural drainage channel transformed into a series of themed gardens and open spaces, ensuring that every resident of Chandigarh would have easy access to green areas. The development of Leisure Valley was synchronous with the establishment of Chandigarh itself, with various sections, like the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, being developed over the years following the city's initial planning in the 1950s. It stands as a testament to Corbusier's foresight, integrating nature seamlessly into urban planning and ensuring the city's livability and aesthetic appeal for generations.
