History

Jaisalmer Fort was built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal, a Bhati Rajput ruler, making it one of the oldest and largest forts in the world. Strategically located on the ancient trade route that connected India to Central Asia and Africa, it served as a vital stronghold and a center for trade and commerce. Over centuries, the fort witnessed numerous battles and sieges, with its formidable walls defending the kingdom against various invaders, including the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals.
