History

The history of Horsley Hills is deeply rooted in the colonial era, named after W.D. Horsley, a British Collector of the Cuddapah district. He was particularly enchanted by the cool climate and serene environment of the area, which reminded him of his homeland. In the late 19th century, around 1870, he undertook the initiative to develop the region as a summer retreat for British officers and their families. He constructed several bungalows and planted numerous exotic trees, transforming the barren land into a lush green haven. The Collector's bungalow, a prominent landmark, still stands today, a testament to its colonial past. Over the years, Horsley Hills evolved from an exclusive British escapade to a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all walks of life. The indigenous people of the area, particularly the 'Chenchus,' have a long-standing connection to these hills, with their folklore and traditions adding to the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
