History

The history of Dwarka is deeply intertwined with Hindu mythology, primarily revolving around Lord Krishna. Legends state that Lord Krishna established his kingdom here after migrating from Mathura. The original city of Dwarka is believed to have been submerged in the Arabian Sea after Krishna's departure. Archaeological excavations, particularly underwater, have indeed revealed ancient city structures off the coast, lending credence to these legends. The present-day Dwarka stands on what is believed to be the sixth city built on the site. Over centuries, various dynasties, including the Yadavas, Ahirs, and Gaekwads, have ruled and contributed to the city's development and the preservation of its religious heritage, with the iconic Dwarkadhish Temple being a testament to its enduring spiritual significance.
