The Charminar, an iconic symbol of Hyderabad, Telangana, is a magnificent monument and mosque. History

The Charminar was constructed in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. Legend has it that the monument was built to commemorate the eradication of a deadly plague that had ravaged the city of Golconda. Upon the plague's end, the Sultan vowed to build a mosque at the very spot where the epidemic ceased, and thus, Charminar came into existence. It was also intended to be the centerpiece of the new city of Hyderabad, which he was establishing. The architecture is Indo-Saracenic, a blend of Islamic and Indian styles, showcasing the advanced engineering and artistic prowess of the time. Over the centuries, Charminar has witnessed numerous historical events and played a central role in the city's development. It has been a site of worship, a marketplace, and a strategic point, embodying the spirit and resilience of Hyderabad.
