The Bhoramdeo Temple complex dates back to the 7th to 12th centuries AD, built by the Nagwanshi rulers during the Kalachuri period. The main Bhoramdeo Temple is believed to have been constructed in the 11th century by King Gopal Dev. The name 'Bhoramdeo' is derived from Bhoramdev, a tribal deity, though the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Historical inscriptions found at the site provide insights into the patronage and construction of these magnificent structures. The Madwa Mahal, another prominent temple within the complex, was built in 1349 AD by King Ramachandra Dev and is famous for its carvings of 54 different sexual positions, which led to the comparison with Khajuraho.
