History

The construction of Bengaluru Palace began in 1873 by Reverend J. Garrett, a highly influential figure during the British Raj in India. However, it was acquired by the then Maharaja of Mysore, Chamaraja Wodeyar X, in 1884. The Maharaja made significant additions and alterations to the existing structure, transforming it into the magnificent palace we see today. Designed in the Tudor and Scottish Gothic architectural styles, the palace was intended to serve as ayar's summer residence. Over the years, it has witnessed numerous historical events and played a crucial role in the administration and cultural life of the Mysore Kingdom. Despite controversies and attempts to demolish it for urban development, the palace has been preserved and now stands as a symbol of Bengaluru's rich royal lineage.
